What's in The Planet Reigate Podcast

The Planet Reigate Podcast is overwhelmingly positive (we don't do ‘he said, she said’ party politics!), and fiercely loyal to the area and people who have Reigate as the 'centre of their universe'.

About 30 minutes long, it's ready for you to listen to over your Saturday breakfast.

Reigate’s distinctiveness and pride ooze from the speaker when you listen to The Planet Reigate Podcast,  in a series of short, pacey conversations, punctuated by specially-composed music and professionally recorded voiceovers.

Each episode we have our Good Time Guide what's on listings, we publicise all that’s good about the town, and champion local independent shops and traders in our 'Thanks A Million' feature.

We have a suite of other features from which we pick each week. Maybe something about local wildlife and walks, weather or local history, what’s new at the Harlequin, and what’s news at the hospital. Charity appeals get a mention and so too some local jobs. And there’s a weekly fun competition as well.

High-quality audio production from a professional BBC presenter makes this podcast almost unique. It's not a dull chat between two people on a buffering Zoom link! Instead, each show has a mix of guests talking about a variety of topics, many recorded on location with a great use of natural sound and ‘place’ to help illustrate the story and draw the listener in.

See below for more details - and if you'd like to be involved either as a reporter or a guest (or to suggest a guest!), then do get in touch!

If every adult in Reigate alone spent an extra £1 a week locally, it would boost the town's economy by £1m a year!

In every show, we highlight a local business to give it a free boost. So, if you run one or have a favourite one, tell us:

Loupi the terrier dog, Priory Park, Reigate, Surrey

The Surrey Hills is a great place for dogs

 as well us humans!

Join The Planet Reigate Podcast as, with Loupi the dog, we talk with other owners about their four-legged friends and find out their name, age and breed, as well as their favourite foods, funny ways and how good they are.

Recorded, as the name would suggest, in Reigate's Priory Park, we'd love to meet up with you and your pooch and get to know if they're a pampered Pomeranian, a tearaway Terrier or a  docile Dalmatian.

So if you want to show off your Schnauzer, or any other breed,  contact us Hello@ThePlanetReigatePodcast.com and we'll sort out a time to meet up with you both in the Park soon.

Take part in our weekly competition!

Our spies need your help to crack the weekly code they have been set. Are you up for the mission?

Each week on The Planet Reigate Podcast we'll tell you the location of a secret number somewhere in the 'Planet Reigate' area. It could be on a shop front, bus stop or a clock. Or maybe it's on something unusual - like in the photo above. Hmmm...

Help our spies by finding the Code, writing it down and sending it in Hello@ThePlanetReigatePodcast.com for mention on the show.

(All locations are publicly accessible although care and supervision may be required. The prize is a mention on the Podcast.)

Each episode of The Planet Reigate Podcast ends with a ‘soundscape’ recording, perhaps of the natural wildlife locally (maybe from the Heath, the Hill, the Park or one of our local lakes, streams or woods), or maybe skateboarders in Priory Park or a Sunday church bells.

Sit back and relax and have a minute of mindfulness as you picture the scene from the Surrey Hills.

This truly is the best bit of Britain, and even if you've moved from the area, you can always stay connected with the place you once called home.

Our celebration of the area's local heroes.

Whether it's someone who found your phone, the top-class teacher who's really helped your child at school, the passer-by who started your car when it conked out on the Hill, a volunteer, a neighbour, or a paid-for professional.

You don't even have to know their name - it could be a 'shout out to a stranger'! Or it could be a nurse, a shopkeeper or council roadsweeper.

Just let us know what happened and who you want to thank and we'll get you on the show so you can tell the rest of the Planet and send your Planet Reigate Star a virtual handshake... or hug!

OK it may not quite be this kind of treasure, but you never know!

We have regular reports from Reigate's main charity shops to uncover the bargains yet to hit the shelves.

Yes, The Planet Reigate Podcast has special permission to get a sneak peek at the donated books, clothes, games or tech that are just that little bit special. Be first to hear each week's show, so you can be first in the queue to bag a bargain and give a new home to something special.

And we're not talking about bric-a-brac and tat. No, these are the hidden gems, the rare editions, the designer labels and collectors' items.

Caring and Sharing

A collection of school-related items: calculator, pens, scissors, tape, paint - stock image

Do you study or work at a local school or college? Then let us know what's happening there so we can share it with everyone else.

A fair, a school production, outstanding successes in exams or sports, a pupil who's done something amazing in their own time perhaps. A school trip, special project, fundraising, new science labs ... We'll also do birthday 'shout outs'!

Either add us to your newsletter or press release distribution list, or let us know via Hello@ThePlanetReigatePodcast.com

Then we may give you a mention on our School Call feature or even get you on for an interview.

All we ask is that you promote

The Planet Reigate Podcast

in your next parents' newsletter and on your website, with links to the show so everyone can hear the episode that you're featured on.

Caring and Sharing

'Professor' Weather

Caring and Sharing

We are so lucky to live here, but we all know just how expensive it is. And that some people find the cost overwhelming.

The Planet Reigate Podcast is pleased and proud to give free regular updates on what food or clothes are needed by our neighbours,  and where the drop-off points are.

Plus, get in touch if your group or charity needs something else too: whether it be volunteers to marshal a fun run, or  vol-au-vents for a fundraising picnic,  muscle to manoeuvre a marquee, or litter-pickers, envelope lickers or veg-patch diggers.

Hello@ThePlanetReigatePodcast.com

Our listeners are the best on the Planet, so between us all, we can do our bit to help your charity group.

'Professor' Weather

'Professor' Weather

'Professor' Weather

Our very own 'Professor Weather' (*not an actual professor!) will be on to look back at the 'weather week that was' as well as what's in store.

As well as that, we'll have a regular look at the river that's synonymous with where we live, the River Mole.

In the recent past, the meandering Mole boasted the greatest diversity of fish species of any river in England, and had twelve Sites of Special Scientific Interest on its banks.

But it goes through a lot: the river level responds rapidly to heavy rainfall, and can also dry out very easily. And then there's pollution by companies and individuals.  The Planet Reigate Podcast won't get political, but will have health checks on our important watery artery.
